OCIA

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults

OCIA is a transformative process for a person considering becoming a Catholic. It is a process designed to form and inform inquirers who fall into three categories:

  • an unbaptized person

  • a person baptized into a faith tradition other than Catholic

  • a baptized Catholic who was neither confirmed or reared as a Catholic

Our OCIA formation is rooted in sacramental formation through prayer and community. There are various phases and rites in the OCIA process. The initial phase is a 3 month inquiry phase intended for those first encountering the Catholic faith. The inquiry phase ends with the Rite of Entrance into the Catechumenate. Formation then continues through additional liturgical rites throughout the year. These serve as milestones for the participant in marking their growing commitment and desire for the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.

This class is open to all inquirers 18 years of age or older in our parish boundaries (those that live close to or attend Holy Rosary Parish). The inquiry phase begins August 13th at 7:00 pm in the HRA Library and continues weekly throughout the year. Attending the class during the inquiry phase does not mean you have already made the decision of becoming Catholic.

Spouses and babies in arms are welcome to attend. Please complete the form below if you know you will be joining us. If you have additional questions before signing up, please email Anthony Romeo at romeoa@holyrosary.edu
